In this post, I’m taking you through a typical day in my life, where I juggle factory work, dealing with Yelp, and running a small delivery business. If you’re interested in behind-the-scenes moments and the reality of balancing multiple jobs, keep reading!
My Morning Routine
“I always start my day with a good cup of coffee. Before heading out the door I pour what’s left of my coffee into my Stanley thermos. and get ready for the day ahead. I hit the road, and usually, there’s a quick pause at a red light, giving me a moment to mentally prepare for what’s ahead.
Today was no exception. While thinking about Yelp and trying to become a vlogger, I decided to grab my camera and vent a little about it—hoping to help others be cautious when dealing with them. Funny enough, just as I mentioned how long the light usually takes, it wasn’t that long today. Even though it did take me a few minutes to get my phone out and set it up.
My Yelp Experience
Here’s where things took a turn. Instead of the expected $100 fee, what greeted Two weeks later was a whopping $120. Yep, that’s nearly double. I couldn’t help but wonder: How did a hundred become a $120.00 In less than two weeks?
Of course, this wasn’t just about numbers. You’d think more money would mean more value, right? Well, not quite. For that price, I only got about 10 leads. Ten! And after looking at some reviews and a few youtube videos I think I got lucky it wasn’t more!
Reality Check: Online Service Reliability
Is Yelp reliable? Honestly, I can’t fully answer that question—While Yelp can be useful for some, my experience has been mixed. I’ve seen both good and bad reviews, but the negative ones tend to line up with my own. If you ever get a call offering ad credits, be cautious. This is just my personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt, but always do your research before diving in
- Misunderstanding charges
- Expecting a flood of leads

From Factory to Freelance: A Journey of Change and New Opportunities
After the traffic light, I’ve got another 20-30 minutes before I reach the factory. It’s a boring and lonely drive, but it gives me time to think. Mainly, I’ve been thinking about how, after October 31st, we’ll be shutting down, and that’s how I got into this whole mess with Yelp. I registered a lawn care business I’m trying to start for next season, along with some delivery driving on the side. That’s when I got involved with Yelp.
As I reflect on my journey from working at the factory to becoming a freelancer, I can’t help but appreciate the change and new opportunities that have come my way. The daily commute to the factory was mundane and solitary, granting me ample time for introspection. However, this routine will soon come to an end as the factory is set to shut down after October 31st. In anticipation of this closure, I decided to venture into the realm of entrepreneurship by registering my own lawn care business for the upcoming season, supplemented by some part-time delivery driving. It was during this transition that I found myself entangled with Yelp.
Coffee Breaks and the End of the Workday
Once I arrive at the factory, it’s time to get into the grind. Whether it’s moving loads out of a furnace or taking a short coffee break, the day flies by.
After clocking out, I do a pre-trial inspection of my truck before heading out to make deliveries. Unfortunately, this time, I noticed a light was out, and the back of my truck was messy. Instead of risking a bad delivery experience, I decided to delay it until I could fix everything the next day.I figured it was a better decision to be safe than to risk getting a ticket, which could have cost me more than I would have made in the four hours of deliveries I had available.
Why Routine Checks Matter
- Safety: Regular inspections prevent accidents. Imagine the discomfort of a tire blowout because you forgot a quick pressure check.
- Avoiding Drama: Nobody wants surprise maintenance tasks, especially on a tight delivery schedule.
- Performance Watch: Keeping track of vehicle performance saves money. Better MPG anyone?
Recently, during my routine check, I discovered a headlight out. Annoying, right? But it was an *immediate attention needed* kind of thing, for safety during those night deliveries. I double-checked everything. You know, starting with the lights.
Surprise Maintenance: Dealing With It
Sometimes, despite the best plans, you hit roadblocks. Like Murphy’s Law lurking around the corner. How do you balance a delivery schedule with sudden fixes? It’s tricky.
What I find helps is having a checklist. Before I start, I ensure the essentials are in top shape. Lights, for instance. Do they all work? How are the tires looking? These small queries keep my day rolling smoothly. If you ask me, prevention beats the cure anytime.
Checking the truck before hitting the road has become second nature. The phrase, “So check this truck out and try to go make some deliveries” sticks in mind. It’s a routine, yes, but it offers peace of mind. Nothing beats starting the day knowing everything’s great!
We’ll dive deeper, next time. But until then, keep those eyes peeled and your headlights brighter. 🌟
The Adventures of a Delivery Schedule
Being on the road as a delivery driver is more than just a job. It’s a *balancing act* where time and task management create the tightrope that we navigate daily. But, what happens when everything doesn’t go as planned?
Balancing Time and Tasks
Time management is crucial. Every minute counts. With only 30 minutes left to clock out, it’s easy to feel the pressure. But what if you’re done early? Is it better to jump into tasks or wait till tomorrow? As I was winding down my day recently, I noticed,
“Got thirty minutes left to clock out, but got done a little early.”
Even with some time on my hands, I still had a checklist: checking the truck, ensuring everything’s shipshape. Makes you wonder—how do we make the most of every minute?
Adapting to Delays and Setbacks
The unpredictable is the only predictable element on the road. Let’s face it, unforeseen troubles like flats or a busted headlight happen. And yes, it happened to me. Just the other day, I realized I’d left some of my tools inside the truck. There I was, thinking, “Might wait till tomorrow.”
But do we *ever* really wait? Nope, we adapt. Work-around strategies are our forte. Got a delay? We’ll route plan on the fly. Have you faced unexpected delays? What’s your strategy?
Strategies for Staying on Schedule
With everything that can pop up, staying on schedule is more art than science. Strategic thinking? Check. Flexibility? Check. Perseverance? You bet. It all boils down to making choices—deciding to postpone maintenance tasks for another day just because the clock’s ticking.
Being a delivery driver tests our *ingenuity* daily. Whether we’ve got 30 minutes or an hour, mastering our schedule is a daily adventure and challenge.
TL;DR: Delivery schedules require balancing time management, adapting to surprises, and employing strategies to counter delays while keeping the wheels rolling smoothly.
